“The Finest of Casual Dining”

Discover how a love of cooking, family gatherings and Southern hospitality grew into The Tin Top Restaurant & Oyster Bar that locals and Gulf Coast visitors know today.

It Started With a Love of Cooking

Before Tin Top became a Bon Secour favorite, there was a love of cooking, a family that enjoyed gathering around good food, and a dream that eventually found a home along Alabama's Gulf Coast.

Bob Hallmark didn't always know he would be in the restaurant business. Before opening Tin Top in 2004, Bob was a general contractor.

But food had always been part of the story. Growing up with four brothers and a mother with a passion for cooking, Bob developed his own love for preparing food and bringing people together around the table.

Years of entertaining family and friends and preparing memorable spreads eventually helped turn that passion into something more.

The Pearl of Bon Secour

Since 2004, Tin Top has kept it coastal and classic — bringing together Gulf seafood, hand-cut steaks, Southern favorites and the kind of hospitality that makes a restaurant feel like part of the community.

A Restaurant Takes Root in Bon Secour

In 2004, that dream became a reality in Bon Secour, Alabama.

Tin Top began building its reputation the old-fashioned way: one plate, one table and one guest at a time.

The idea wasn't to make dining complicated. It was to serve good food, use quality ingredients, welcome people warmly and create the kind of place where guests wanted to come back.

The Finest of Casual Dining

Tin Top has never needed white tablecloths or unnecessary fuss to take food seriously.

“The finest of casual dining” captures something that has always made Tin Top special: a relaxed place where the food still matters.

Fresh Gulf seafood, oysters, Southern coastal favorites and hand-cut steaks belong at a table where people can settle in, enjoy themselves and simply have a good meal together.

That balance between quality and comfort became part of Tin Top's personality — and remains part of it today.

Good Food Has Always Been at the Center of It

Restaurants change over the years. Buildings evolve, menus grow and new guests discover the place for the first time.

But some things shouldn't change.

At Tin Top, the heart of the restaurant remains remarkably simple: start with good ingredients, cook them with care and serve them with genuine Southern hospitality.

More Than Two Decades in Bon Secour

More than twenty years after Tin Top first opened its doors, the restaurant continues to welcome longtime regulars, new neighbors and Gulf Coast visitors looking for a memorable meal.

A lot can happen in two decades.

There are more stories, more photographs, more favorite dishes and generations of guests who have made Tin Top part of their own traditions.

But underneath all of it is the same simple idea that helped start the restaurant in the first place: cook good food and take good care of people.

Hand-Cut Ribeye at Tin Top

A good Ribeye does not need much explaining. Known for its rich flavor and natural marbling, it is one of the most popular cuts of beef for steak lovers. At Tin Top, we serve our Ribeye in either a 12 oz or 16 oz cut, using premium aged beef that is hand cut before it reaches the plate.

Premium Aged Beef Makes the Difference

The quality of a steak starts long before it hits the grill. Our Ribeye is made from premium aged beef, giving the cut the tenderness and deep beef flavor that makes Ribeye such a dependable favorite.

Aging allows the beef to develop character while maintaining the rich, juicy texture people expect from this cut. Combine that with careful preparation and a proper sear, and you get a steak that is satisfying from the first bite to the last.

Choose a 12 oz or 16 oz Ribeye

Whether you are looking for a hearty steak dinner or want to go all in, Tin Top gives you two choices. Our 12 oz Ribeye offers plenty of steak without overdoing it, while the 16 oz cut is made for guests who arrive with a serious appetite.

Both cuts are hand cut from premium aged beef and prepared with the same attention to flavor and consistency.

More Than a Seafood Restaurant

Tin Top may be known for Gulf seafood, oysters, shrimp, and coastal favorites, but steak has always had a place at our table. Our menu is built for the group that wants options: one person may want Gulf shrimp or oysters while someone else is ready for a hand-cut Ribeye.

That balance is part of what makes Tin Top a favorite for lunch, dinner, celebrations, and relaxed nights out in Bon Secour.

A Steak Dinner with Coastal Alabama Character

Dining at Tin Top is not about formality. It is about good food, comfortable surroundings, and the kind of Southern hospitality that makes people want to stay awhile.

A Ribeye fits that style perfectly. It is familiar, satisfying, and dependable, whether you are a local regular or visiting Bon Secour from Gulf Shores, Foley, Orange Beach, or another part of Alabama's Gulf Coast.

A Gulf Coast Favorite

Shrimp and Grits in Bon Secour, Alabama

Gulf Shrimp • Smoked Gouda Grits • House Crawfish Sauce

A Southern Classic with Tin Top Flavor

Some dishes simply belong on the Gulf Coast, and Shrimp and Grits is one of them. At The Tin Top Restaurant & Oyster Bar in Bon Secour, Alabama, we serve this Southern favorite with Gulf shrimp, smoked Gouda cheese grits, and our house crawfish sauce.

Tin Top Shrimp and Grits with Gulf shrimp, smoked Gouda cheese grits, and house crawfish sauce.

Shrimp and Grits, Tin Top Style

Our Shrimp and Grits starts with Gulf shrimp prepared grilled or blackened, served over rich smoked Gouda cheese grits, and finished with our house crawfish sauce. It is familiar Southern comfort food with the coastal character you expect from a restaurant tucked away in Bon Secour.

Gulf Shrimp Meets Southern Comfort

Shrimp and Grits has become one of the South's most recognizable dishes for good reason. The combination is simple enough to feel familiar, but every kitchen has an opportunity to make it its own. At Tin Top, that starts with Gulf shrimp and layers of flavor that complement the seafood rather than cover it up.

Guests can choose their shrimp grilled for a straightforward, savory preparation or blackened for a bolder, seasoned finish. Either way, the shrimp remain at the center of the plate.

Smoked Gouda Grits Make the Difference

Underneath the shrimp are our smoked Gouda cheese grits. Creamy, rich, and just smoky enough, the grits give the dish the comforting character people expect from a Southern classic while adding a distinctive Tin Top touch.

The creamy grits also provide the perfect base for our house crawfish sauce, bringing the shrimp, cheese, and crawfish flavors together in every bite.

Finished with Our House Crawfish Sauce

The finishing touch is Tin Top's house crawfish sauce. It adds another layer of coastal flavor and turns the combination of Gulf shrimp and smoked Gouda grits into something unmistakably our own.

It's the kind of plate that feels right at home in Bon Secour: seafood, Southern cooking, bold flavor, and no need to make things more complicated than they should be.

A Taste of Bon Secour and Alabama's Gulf Coast

The Tin Top Restaurant & Oyster Bar has called Bon Secour home since 2004. Our menu reflects the place around us, with Gulf seafood, oysters, steaks, Southern favorites, and dishes made for the relaxed style of dining that defines this part of coastal Alabama.

For locals, Shrimp and Grits is familiar comfort food. For visitors spending time around Bon Secour, Gulf Shores, Foley, Orange Beach, and the surrounding Alabama Gulf Coast, it is one of those dishes that simply feels right when you're this close to the Gulf.

Grilled or Blackened — Make It Yours

Choosing grilled or blackened shrimp gives you two different ways to enjoy the same Tin Top favorite. Grilled shrimp keeps things simple and savory, letting the Gulf shrimp, smoked Gouda grits, and crawfish sauce share the plate.

Blackened shrimp brings a little more seasoning and intensity, creating a bolder contrast with the creamy grits. There isn't a wrong choice — it comes down to how you like your Gulf shrimp.
